Individual Therapy: Men and Women
Individual therapy is suitable for either men or women who want to make changes in their lives. Therapy can help clients work through stresses they are experiencing in their lives now, assist in the desire to make behavioural changes, increase self-awareness, break habits as well as work through past wounds or childhood issues. And so much more. Therapy is for anyone from any cultural, economic or social background.
Therapy can be used as a vehicle to aid clients to make changes in their lives, so the ultimate goal is that clients will live a more full and satisfied life. In individual therapy, there is a two way relationship between the client and the therapist, both playing an active part. The therapist's job is to facilitate the client's healing process, to bare witness to their experience, support the client, respect their process and challenge them to move forward and see that change is possible. The client's job is to be an active member in their own healing process, which is ongoing and doesn't just happen in the therapy session. For change to occur, clients need to incorporate the tools and insights that may be gained through therapy.
Goals of therapy are established during the initial consultation between the therapist and the client. The goals are those of the client and not the agenda of the therapist. The goals which are established are subject to revision and changes based on the client's need.
Most sessions will be conducted using talk therapy techniques. However, to nurture your emotional soul, other types of therapies can be incorporated to assist in the client's healing process. These alternatives to talk therapy can be accessed by clicking on the following icon: Types of therapy. These alternatives can help to access hidden emotions and assist the client in encompassing their awareness of body, mind and soul. These alternative therapies can also assist in accelerating the speed of the healing process. Alternatives to talk therapy will not be introduced without the consent of the client.
With individual therapy, it is recommended that clients start with one fifty (50) minute session a week. As sessions progress scheduling can eventually change to a bi-weekly basis, then to monthly and finally when therapy is no longer necessary the clients can see Jennifer on a need by need basis for 'tune-ups'. This assessment would be made by both the client and the therapist, but ultimately, the sessions are for you. The goal of therapy is that clients gain tools and awareness to make changes toward living a happier life as you rely less on regular therapy sessions.
